Author Interview by Claire Lamb with Author
Molly McAdams
Hi Molly, Welcome, I hope
you are well?
First of all can you
please tell us a little about yourself and your books?
Well … I’m pretty random, and super awkward. But
that’s okay because my fictional characters don’t judge me ;) Honestly, I’m
just a normal girl who is lucky enough to spend every day in her characters’
world.
What inspired you to start writing?
I have these very vivid dreams, and they consume my mind like
you wouldn’t believe. So I started writing them out (hoping to get them out of
my head) and the next thing I knew I was expanding them and turning them into
novels!
Who is your favourite author?
Nicholas Sparks
Why did you choose to write these types of books?
I just wrote what I love and what I know. The characters are
the ones that decided to turn them into what y’all see now!
What Book are you reading at the moment?
I’m actually about to
start TRUST IN ME by J. Lynn
Outside of writing what do you do to relax?
Play with my fur-babies or watch movies with
the hubby. We’re homebodies!
Where did the ideas for your books come from?
My dreams J
Did you have any muses for any of your characters?
Ohhh yes. Haha. Charlie Keller is my Chase Grayson from
TAKING CHANCES and STEALING HARPER. And Tyler Seielstad is the muse for Coen
Steele in a novella I’m writing called CAPTURING PEACE. (Well, he kind of has to
be the muse since the story is loosely based off his life … don’t worry, a
couple of my dreams have been thrown in there.)
Do any of your characters remind you of anyone in your life?
Aside from Tyler/Coen? Lol! There are some of my characters
that are a mix of people from my life, and I’ve even used my hubby as the idea
behind Gage in FROM ASHES. Since I put so much of my real life in my books, a
lot of my characters are bound to remind me of people in my life.
In your books can you relate to any of the circumstances the
characters go through, are there any of your own experiences or total fiction?
Most of them are my own experiences. Like I said, I write what
I know. Some of the events have been tweaked so they’re a little more dramatic,
and some tweaked so they fit with the storyline … but you’d be surprised how
much of my books have come from my life.
Are the names of characters in your novel important to you?
Not for the most part, most of them are just
the names that the characters wanted (I know that sounds weird!)
This question comes from Lynsey Sabin. Was writing stealing
Harper and Taking chances as much of a crying fest as it was reading them?
Ahh, probably a lot more crying on my part than my readers’
part. When I wrote TAKING CHANCES, I cried for a solid two hours, and then
spent the next week walking around like a zombie. STEALING HARPER wasn’t as
hard all at once, but I think I cried more because I’m pretty sure I cried
every day I spent writing it.
These next few questions come from Michelle Byrant. What
made you pick Chase to be a tattoo artist?
He wasn’t at first, he just had his tattoos, but it just kept
coming up in my mind, and when the lilies (that he tattooed on Harper) came up
… I knew he had to be the one that did them.
Who could you picture to play Brandon, Chase and Harper if
their story was made into a film?
Brandon … a mix of Dave Herman’s body and Channing Tatum’s
face. Chase … Charlie Keller ;) Harper … Emma Roberts.
Was it deliberate that you came up with a love triangle?
Well, in the dream that started TAKING CHANCES,
the love triangle was VERY much already in place. So, I guess in a way.
Is the love triangle something you have personal experience
of as it was so well written and seemed to have a personal sense?
I was never involved
in anything as intense as the relationships between Chase, Brandon, and Harper
… and I’ve never cheated on anyone. But I’ve definitely had my own version of
the situation.
Is Harper like you in any way?
Uh, no. I don’t think so anyway. Haha. It’s hard because
there are conversations she has that I’ve personally had. But she’s not me.
Are the orange Lillies of any significance to you
personally?
They’re my absolute favorite flower of all
time.
Brandon was my hero, he really dug her out of grief and
loved her regardless, did you originally intend for that to happen?
No, he did that all on his own.
Does your family support you with your writing?
They are very happy that I get to do something I love.
What is your least favourite part in the writing progress?
When I’m writing a book, and my characters
decide they don’t feel like talking to me that day. It’s frustrating, and in a
way, kind of terrifying.
E reader or Paperback?
Err … BOTH! But I do love that you can have so many more
books in one little device. So I guess, e-reader
If you could pick another author to co-write with who
would it be and why?
AL Jackson, simply
because I love her and love her writing. But I feel like that would be
difficult to do (props to those authors that do it!) because we all have such
different styles. I’m not sure I would be able to do it.
Do you do anything when writing? (eg, listen to music,
sit on floor ect)?
Listen to music! Always. I can’t write with out
it!
If you wrote a book about your life....what name would you
call yourself and what 3 words would you use to describe your personality?
The name I’m not sure
I can answer … the way I choose names for characters is a really long process,
so I’m not sure I can do that right now. Butttttt I would say: bubbly,
outgoing, and awkward.
Ok easy one top five book boyfriends?
Merrick from Shelly Crane’s COLLIDE series.
Jared from COME TO ME QUIETLY by AL Jackson. Aiden from Jennifer L Armentrout’s
COVENANT series. Deuce from Madeline Sheehan’s UNDENIABLE series. Caleb from
Kristen Proby’s SAFE WITH ME.
Has there been a review that has stood out the most for you?
It wasn’t a review, but I’ve had a couple women
write to me about TAKING CHANCES. And the tragic parts of that book, had been
something they’d gone through to a T. I will never forget those stories.
Which book - by another author - are you looking forward to
the most?
COME TO ME SOFTLY by
AL Jackson!
Is there any traditions you do after finishing a book?
I put on the clip from
LOVE ACTUALLY where Hugh Grant dances, and I dance around my house.
Favourite Colour? Green
Favourite Food? Potatoes. Any way.
Night or Day? Night!
Favourite movie? That’s a difficult one. I’ll just say PITCH PERFECT
Favourite actor? Denzel Washington
Favourite Drink? Diet Dr Pepper
Tidy or Untidy? Ha. Ha. Ha. Uhhh … can I be a mix?
Thanks for being an absolute star and taking part in the
Interview is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
I absolutely
adore each and every one of you! Y’all make my days so fun, I don’t know what I would do
without you :)
